2026 West Kent Grammar School Guide

The 2026 West Kent Grammar School Guide: Schools, Scores, and Pass Marks

Choosing a grammar school in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, or Sevenoaks requires understanding the “Kent Test” (GL Assessment) and the specific entry requirements for each elite school. Here is the definitive guide for Lernovatic parents.

West Kent Grammar Schools

We provide specialist preparation for entry into all local selective schools:

Tunbridge Wells: The Skinners’ School (Boys), Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar (TWGGS), Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys (TWGSB – also has a Sevenoaks annexe).

Tonbridge: The Judd School (Boys), Tonbridge Grammar School (TGS – Girls), Weald of Kent Grammar (Girls – also has a Sevenoaks annexe).

Sevenoaks: While Sevenoaks students primarily travel to Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells, the TWGSB and Weald of Kent annexes in Sevenoaks are key local options.

The Scoring System (GL Assessment)

The Kent Test consists of three main standardised sections: English, Maths, and Reasoning.

Maximum Total Score: 423

Score Range per Paper: 69 to 141

The 2026 Pass Mark: To be “Grammar Streamed,” students typically need a total score of 332+, with no single paper score falling below 108 or 109 (this threshold is adjusted slightly each year).

What is a “Top Tier” Score?

Simply “passing” is often not enough for the most oversubscribed schools in our area. These schools often use a “High Score” or “Super-Selectivity” criteria:

School , Expected “Safe” Scores:

The Judd Grammar School (Boys) :395 – 400+ | One of the highest cut-offs in the UK.

Tonbridge Grammar School (TGS) (Girls):  385 – 395+ | Highly competitive for “Outer Area” students.

The Skinners’ Grammar School : 372 – 385+ | Uses a combination of high score and distance.

Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar (TWGGS) / Weald of Kent Grammar School (Girls):  332+ (Pass) | Typically admits based on distance once the pass mark is met.

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School ( Boys):  332+ (Pass) | Typically admits based on distance once the pass mark is met.

Aiming for 80%+: While standardised scores are complex, we recommend that students consistently hit 80% or higher in their practice papers to be on track for a high-scoring grammar place in West Kent.
